Winning Issue » ELECTION REFORM

There are many issues that are currently preventing our nation from realizing the hopes and intentions of our Founding Fathers’ dreams. Many of these issues relate to our election system. Since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013, voter suppression has flourished. Many states have enacted laws that reduce the time allowed to vote and the number of locations in which to do so. Eligible voters are often removed from voter rolls on technicalities. Gerrymandered districts have given one party more seats in Congress than it deserves. Our elections systems are hacked by foreign entities who also inject money into the election process. Our social media platforms give audience to bogus actors who influence our electorate with misinformation and deceit. Money, much of it dark and dirty since the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens Untied decision, now rules the day. Advocates claim all these things have the effect of stripping representation from our citizens and giving it to special interests, incumbents and foreign nations. They say America needs comprehensive election reform in order to solve its election shortcomings.

Proposed Legislation: Reintroduction of S.1 - Freedom to Vote Act (118th Congress 2023-2024)
Prospective Sponsor: Sen. Amy Klobuchar (MN)

Polling Options
  • I oppose reforming current election reform policy and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Leader John Thune (SD).

  • I support establishing national standards for federal elections to protect voting rights, end partisan gerrymandering, and reform campaign finance by: 1.) Establishing Election Day as a federal holiday and mandating that all states offer at least two weeks of early voting and "no-excuse" mail-in voting. 2.) Implementing national standards for Automatic Voter Registration and Same-Day Registration for federal elections. 3.) Restoring the right to vote in federal elections for citizens who have served their time for felony convictions and are no longer incarcerated. 4.) Setting uniform rules for drawing congressional districts to ensure fairness and transparency, including strengthened protections for communities of color. 5.) Addressing "dark money" by requiring more disclosure from organizations spending over $10,000 in an election, tightening rules on super PACs, and establishing a voluntary small-donor matching system for House elections. 6.) Requiring states to conduct post-election audits and use voting systems that provide a voter-verified paper record. 7.) Cracking down on deceptive practices and voter intimidation, including prohibiting the dissemination of false information meant to deter voters And wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Sen. Amy Klobuchar (MN) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.
