Winning Issue » FUEL CELLS

A fuel cell is an electrochemical device that converts the chemical energy from a fuel (like hydrogen) and an oxidant (like oxygen) directly into electricity, producing only water and heat as byproducts, making it a clean, efficient power source for vehicles, buildings, and portable electronics, unlike batteries that store energy or combustion engines that burn fuel. It works by splitting fuel into protons and electrons, with protons passing through an electrolyte membrane to combine with oxygen and electrons to generate current, heat, and water at the cathode. Fuel cells offer high efficiency, low to zero emissions, quiet operation, fuel flexibility, scalability for various uses, and reduced maintenance due to fewer moving parts, making them cleaner, quieter, and more efficient than combustion engines for generating power from fuels like hydrogen. They provide continuous power, unlike batteries, and offer energy independence by using diverse fuels.

Pending Legislation: S.1043 Technology for Energy Security Act
Sponsor: Rep. Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC)
Status: Senate Committee on Finance
Chair: Sen. Mike Crappo (ID)

Options

  • I oppose reforming current fuel cell policy and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Leader John Thune (SD).
  • I support extending the Inflation Reduction Act's energy investment tax credit for qualified fuel cell property and linear generators by eight years by:

1.) Prolonging the 30% energy investment tax credit for qualified fuel cell and linear generator property construction, extending the deadline from 2024, to 2032 to support the fuel cell industry and encourage investment in clean energy.

2.) Providing the U.S. fuel cell industry the certainty needed to expand and solidify America's role as a leader in manufacturing these technologies.

And wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Sen. Mike Crappo (ID) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.

Trustee Candidates
DUAL TRUSTEE
To participate in the Trustee Election you must first pledge support to this issue.

Senator Michael Crapo
If elected as a trustee, the campaign committee of Sen. Mike Crappo (ID) will be unconditionally awarded the funds pledged to this issue along with a letter requesting him to favorably consider passing S.1043 Technology for Energy Security Act.

Clean Fuels Development Coalition
If elected as a trustee, Clean Fuels Development Coalition will be awarded the funds pledged to this issue along with a letter requesting these funds be used to work and advocate for developing fuel cell technology.

The Clean Fuels Development Coalition (CFDC) aims to promote cleaner-burning transportation fuels, like renewable ethanol, to reduce air pollution, cut oil imports, boost energy security, create jobs, and improve public health, working through industry-government partnerships to shape energy policy that decrease reliance on foreign oil and decrease vehicle emissions.
