Horse slaughter

Americans do not raise horses for human consumption as some other nations do. However, well over 100,000 American horses are annually transported to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered for European consumption, where horsemeat is considered a delicacy. Because of the lack of disclosure on the part of slaughterhouse dealers, horses are often acquired and slaughtered through fraud and misrepresentation. Slaughter also provides a quick and evidence-free outlet for stolen horses. These animals are often subjected to extremely cruel transport and euthanasia conditions. In the past 20 years, more than 3 million American horses have met their fate this way.

I oppose reforming current horse slaughter policy and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Speaker Mike Johnson (LA).
I support permanently banning the slaughter of horses and mules for human consumption in the U.S. and stopping the export of live horses for slaughter abroad by:

1.) Prohibiting the slaughter of horses, ponies, mules, and donkeys (equines) for human food and stopping the shipment of live equines for slaughter overseas.

2.) Amending existing law that already bans dog and cat slaughter for human consumption to include equines.

3.) Explicitly forbidding the shipping, transporting, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donating of equines or their parts for slaughter for human consumption. This is intended to close the loophole that allows American horses to be exported to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico.

And wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Rep. Tracey Mann (KS) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.
