The Department of Defense (DOD) maintains our Military Health System (MHS) which provides healthcare services to 9.4 million active and retired military personnel. This system is completely separate from our Veterans Administration. The primary objective of the MHS is to maintain the health of servicemembers so that they can carry out their military missions. However, much like the overcrowded VA, our Military Health facilities cannot accommodate the demand for care by all active duty service people, their dependents and retirees (many of whom are not eligible for VA services). Therefore, the DOD offers an insurance plan called the TRICARE system for those who cannot get care at military health hospitals or clinics. TRICARE contracts civilian healthcare providers to treat active-duty service members, retirees and their families. TRICARE provides these servicemembers with government-subsidized private medical and dental care as well as telemental health services. Telemental therapy is where a therapist or counselor provides psychological counseling and support over the internet through email, video conferencing, online chat, or a phone call. However, there are often long wait times for TRICARE services.

- I oppose reforming current TRICARE policy and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Speaker Mike Johnson (LA).
- I support allowing certain veterans with service-connected disabilities to enroll in TRICARE Select, the Department of Defense's health care program to provide them with additional healthcare options beyond the VA system by:
1.) Including veterans with service-connected disabilities, former prisoners of war, Purple Heart recipients, Medal of Honor recipients, and those discharged due to disability.
2.) Making Department of Veterans Affairs to be responsible for reimbursing the Department of Defense for the costs associated with enrolling veterans in TRICARE Select.
3.) Prohibiting covered veterans to not be able to receive medical care from both the DOD and the VA at the same time.
And wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Rep. Morgan Griffith (VA) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.

If elected as a trustee, National Military Family Association will be awarded the funds pledged to this issue along with a letter requesting these funds be used to provide and advocate for TRICARE to provide private mental health treatments to servicemembers.
About: NMFA is the voice of military families because, for 50 years, we have proven that we stand behind service members, their spouses, and their children. Our Association is the “go to” source for Administration Officials, Members of Congress, and key decision makers when they want to understand the issues facing our families. They know we have “boots on the ground” with military families and understand better than anyone that “military families serve, too.” Through the support and programs we provide, and our respected voice on Capitol Hill and with the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs, our Association always looks out for the families who stand behind the uniform and for those who serve.
